District 1 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will meet on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the VFW Post No. 858 in Chillicothe.
The joint meeting will begin at 11 a.m. with the regular district meeting to follow. Lunch will also be served.
Winners of the Voice of Democracy, Patriot Pen and Teacher Award competitions will be honored. They include:
Voice of Democracy – senior Mardee E. Sadowsky of North Harrison R-3, first; junior Hayden J. Krumpelman of Marceline R-5, second; and sophomore Haley M. Rucker of Tina-Avalon, third.
Patriots Pen – sixth grader Isabelle J. Dooley of Richmond, first ; sixth grader Riley Jo Howell of Brookfield R-3, second; and eighth grader Addison R. Lewis of Livingston County R-3, third.
Teacher of the Year – Brenda Sue Kerr of Livingston County R-3, sixth through eighth grade, first; Tena Marie Eggers of Hale R-1, kindergarten through fifth grades, second; and Kirk Thacker of Hardin-Central C-2, ninth through 12th grades, third.
