The Trenton Police Department was called to a familiar location on Sunday evening, Dec. 16 as two cars collided at the intersection of Highway 65 and 28th Street.
According to TPD Officer Jasmine Diab’s report, the mishap occurred when a car driven by Sarah D. Warren of Trenton was eastbound on 28th Street. She had stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of U.S. Highway 65, but failed to see a northbound vehicle driven by Betty A. Thomas of Centerville, IA. Ms. Warren pulled into the intersection and her car was struck in the rear passenger side by Ms. Thomas’ vehicle. Ms. Thomas said she attempted to brake, but could not get stopped before striking the Warren car. Ms. Thomas’ car had to be towed from the scene, while Ms. Warren’s car had moderate damage.
Ms. Thomas was taken by Grundy County EMS to Wright Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Ms. Warren sustained a bruised nose and cheeks from the airbag in her vehicle, which deployed during the collision.
No tickets were issued in the mishap.
Sgt. Matt Preston investigated a three-vehicle mishap at the intersection of Ninth and Main streets on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
According to his report, the accident occurred when a semi driven by Joseph Wieberg of Hale was northbound on Main Street. He told Sgt. Preston he fell asleep and the front of his vehicle struck the pickup truck in front of him, driven by Andrew W. Osborn of Trenton. Osborn’s vehicle then struck the vehicle in front of him, a sport utility vehicle driven by Dereck A. Coursen of Trenton, which was stopped at the red light at the intersection.
Osborn’s truck had a broken windshield on the driver’s side and a broken window on the driver’s side rear portion of the vehicle. It was towed from the scene as was the semi. Coursen’s vehicle was driveable, but two persons in his vehicle, Leandra K. Coursen of Trenton and Haley N. Coursen, also of Trenton, sustained injuries with Haley Coursen being transported to Wright Memorial Hospital.
Wieberg was ticketed for careless and imprudent driving.
