Holiday Hoops Recognizes Sponsors, Announces Half-Time Hoop Shoot Event

Dec 10, 2018 | Headline News

As the final details are completed for this week’s High School Holiday Hoops, Director Steve Maxey acknowledged the many individuals and businesses who help to make the annual event a success.
“Holiday Hoops is all about the hundreds of student athletes who experience playing basketball at the Ketcham Community Center on the NCMC campus, but many folks are responsible for assuring the event goes off without a hitch,” he said.
An event of this size could never be the success it has become without the commitment of many individuals, businesses and organizations.
“Among the many groups are the businesses and organizations who assume sponsorship of a day at Hoops and staff the front desk as the official welcoming committee to the event. This number is larger this year than ever before,” Maxey said, noting that 11 of the 13 days are sponsored by area volunteer groups.
He went on to recognize the groups who will be sponsoring specific days, including Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri, Rhonda Watkins- Shelter Insurance, Grundy Electric Cooperative and Mid-State Services, North Central Missouri College, the Princeton Rotary Club, Century 21 Smith and Associates, Barnes-Baker Motors, the Trenton Rotary Club, Wesley United Methodist Church, Smithfield Foods of Princeton and the North Central Missouri College Foundation/College Alumni.
“These are just a hand full of the important folks who contribute to the event, not to mention 115 individual team hosts, over 70 volunteers who are responsible for the official clock and score book, volunteers who assist with ticket sales and hospitality,” Maxey said. “The Trenton community has always been special to step up and support such important events to the community, but the support has grown over 14 years to include individuals from over 20 area communities.”
Area agents of American Family Insurance will again be sponsoring the “Shoot Sixty Seconds for Your School” during this year’s Holiday Hoops.
The event will be held during halftime of each game, with individuals pre-selected by the participating teams. The will shoot free throws for 60 seconds in pursuit of cash prizes for their high school athletic departments, with the winner earning a $500 cash prize while the second-place finisher will receive $250 for his or her school. Following the 60-second contest, the shooter will move to half court for a single shot that can claim a $100 prize.
The selected participants cannot be a member of the current high school team nor can they be a current college or university athlete where their eligibility might be affected. Schools are also encouraged to have their own rebounders on the court to assist the designated shooter.
Twelve area agents have contributed to the prizes in addition to their corporate sponsorship.
