James Manley Baldwin, US Army Retired and a 90-year-old resident of Blue Springs, died on Friday, Nov. 23, 2018 in Kansas City. He was a former Trenton and Chillicothe resident.
A family visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018 at Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs. A committal service with full military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS.
Mr. Baldwin was born on Feb. 4, 1928 in Whitesville, NC, the son of Henry and Bertha Baldwin. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the military in 1971. After his retirement, he moved to Trenton, serving seven years on the Trenton Police Department before opening a package store. He also owned a small engine repair shop. He attended Cat Creek Baptist Church near Brimson. He enjoyed trout fishing, cooking, gardening, camping and watching westerns on television
He is survived by his children, Lois Olney of Waterloo, IA, Terry Fultz of Centerville, IA, Stanley (Stephanie) Baldwin of Chillicothe, Scott (Cherri) Baldwin of Blue Springs, Suzzann (Stephen) Cantrell of Weatherby Lake and William (Tracy) Baldwin (Tracy) of Cocoa, FL; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mable Rutledge of Raleigh Durham, NC.
He was preceded in death by his previous wives, Norma (Scott) Baldwin and Helen (Simmons) Baldwin; his parents, Henry and Bertha Baldwin; and seven siblings.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Disabled Veterans.
