Golfers Review Campaign

Nov 12, 2018 | Golf, Sports & Recreation

The Trenton High School girls golf team celebrated its 2018 season and honored its players on Thursday night at the Riverside Country Club.
Trenton had six players in 2018, all of which earned letters. They included senior Werthen Gass, juniors Oakley Madden, Maci Henson and Ann Airey and freshmen Josie Chumbley and Mari Atup.
“We’ve had a great year,” Coach Travis Mullenix said at the banquet. “We had a lot of fun, as usual, and I felt like we worked hard to get better throughout the year.”
The Bulldog team went just 2-5 in dual matches on the season, but Trenton had plenty of individual success on the course. Three players received all-Grand River Conference status at the league tournament in Gass, Henson and Madden. Trenton finished third as a team at the GRC Tournament and had a fourth-place finish as a team at the Gallatin Tournament.
In postseason play, Gass and Henson each advanced to sectional play at the district tournament with Gass earning all-district honors with a third-place finish individually. Gass was fourth at sectionals, advancing to the state tournament for the third time in her career. There she placed 28th.
“Werthen is a fierce competitor and will practice and practice and practice,” Mullenix said. “This mindset and work ethic has turned her into one of the most accomplished golfers to come through Trenton High School.”
The lone award handed out at the event was the infamous Crying Towel Award, which went to Madden.
