The 2018 real estate and personal property tax bills are in the mail, with the Grundy County Collector’s office providing a new, convenient way to pay taxes. Collector-Treasurer Barbara Harris said taxpayers can now use a secure drop box located on the north side of the courthouse to pay their tax bill after hours. Tax payments must be received in person or postmarked by Dec. 31, 2018 or left in the drop box by that date. A receipt will be mailed to those who do not pay in person. Anyone who does not receive a tax bill by Friday, Nov. 16 is asked to contact the collector’s office as soon as possible. If a personal property tax bill is not received, residents should contact the assessor’s office at 359-4040, ext. 2 to ensure that the assessor’s office has a 2018 assessment form on file. Section 52.23 of the Missouri State Statute indicates that failure to receive a tax notice does not relieve the taxpayer of tax liability. Anyone with questions may contact the collector’s office at 359-4040, ext. 3.
