A veterans service officer will be available in Trenton on Friday, Nov. 2 and Monday, Nov. 12.
Local Veterans Service Officer Wayne Kleinschmidt said the service officer will be available on Nov. from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the VFW Hall and on Nov. 12 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Trenton Hy-Vee, where a free breakfast will also be served. Those meeting with the officer are asked to bring all VA and military paperwork with them.
In addition, a counselor from the Kansas City Veterans Center will be in Trenton on Nov. 2 to provide counseling services. The counselor will be at the VFW Hall from 8 a.m. to noon.
Transportation to VA medical appointments is provided free of charge, making runs primarily to Kansas City on Wednesday. Veterans needing transportation to their appointments can call 359-2078. Those making arrangements for transportation are asked to provide their name, the last four numbers of their Social Security Number, the date and destination of travel and the number of persons who will be going. The shuttle is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
A new laptop to help with processing veterans’ paper work is needed, Kleinschmidt said. A laptop upgrade is needed due to security reasons and persons wanting to make a donation toward purchase of a new computer or wanting to actually donate a laptop can call 359-2078. A receipt will be provided for tax purposes to those making a contribution.
