Wright Memorial CEO Gives Program

Oct 26, 2018 | Headline News

Wright Memorial Hospital CEO Steve Schieber was the guest speaker at Thursday’s meeting of the Trenton Rotary Club. Dave Bain was the program chairman.
Schieber presented information about the hospital, which locally employees 175-plus individuals with an annual payroll of $13.9 million. Among the services offered at Wright Memorial are 3D mammography, mobile x-ray, general surgery, eHealth (telemedicine), a sleep lab and palliative care, a program which Schieber said WMH is piloting for the rest of the Saint Luke’s Health Care System. WMH also offers a hospitalist program along with its newest program, Senior Life Solutions, which targets individuals ages 65 and over who may be suffering from depression and/or anxiety and need both individual and group support.
WMH also works in conjunction with Hedrick Medical Center at Chillicothe, which is also part of the Saint Luke’s System. This collaboration allows both hospitals to provide the 58,000-plus residents of the region with the best care possible.
Schieber also addressed physician recruitment, in which the local facility is very active. He said that WMH recently signed a contract with a doctor who will be joining the staff in 2019 and is working with another physician to come to Trenton in 2020. Both have local ties, which Schieber said is important when trying to recruit to a rural area. He showed statistics that indicate that every physician has 100-plus job offers when getting ready to go out and establish their medical practices. He said that the hospital is hoping to add two more family practitioners and/or internists/pediatricians to its staff.
He concluded by assuring members that the hospital is not closing, pointing out that Wright Memorial is on financially sound footing.
During the business meeting, an update was given on the recent Missouri Day Parade organized by the club as well as the Missouri Day turkey leg sales. It was announced that the Trenton’s Got Talent program is being revived and is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 2 at Trenton High School. Members will also be “ringing the bell” for the Salvation Army on Friday, Dec. 7 and Dec. 14.
