Scott Irvin Esry, a 57-year-old resident of Hamilton, died on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018 at the MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, TX after a long battle with colon cancer.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, 2018 at the Hamilton United Methodist Church Family Life Center. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery at Hamilton.
A family visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018 at the church.
Mr. Esry was born on Aug. 9, 1961 in Cameron, the son of Irvin “Red” and Cordelia “Deedie” Cochran Esry. He graduated from Penney High School in 1979. He was married on Aug. 17, 1984 to Fran Cronin, who survives of the home. He had lived his entire life in Hamilton.
Mr. Esry worked with his father, operating Esry’s grocery stores for 20 years. He then sold commercial insurance with Creative Planning Risk Services for 13 years until his death.
He was a basketball official, refereeing games for 32 years, including five state championships. He also officiated football games and in 2016, he and his crew officiated the Class 5 state championship game.
He enjoyed watching his daughters run cross country and his son coaching basketball.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jeremy Esry and his wife, Whitney and granddaughter, Parker of Trenton, Jordan Jones and her husband, Zane and grandson, Jack of Chula and Erin Harris and her husband, Joseph of Parkville; his mother, Cordelia Esry of Hamilton; a brother, Craig Esry and his wife, Diana and family of Remington, VA; an uncle, Ernest Esry and his wife, Norma of Macon; an aunt, Maxine Cochran of Cairo; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorials are suggested to the Caldwell County Foundation Cancer Assistance Fund or the Erin Hook Live with a Purpose, Inc.
