The Trenton High School volleyball team was at home on Monday night, falling to the visiting Lexington Minutewomen, 25-17, 25-20.
Trenton was able to stay with Lexington for the majority of both games, but late pushes by the Minutewomen down the stretch doomed the Bulldogs each time, sending the visitors home with a 2-0 victory.
Karli Provorse had four kills, two blocks, five digs and an ace to pace Trenton while Teresa Yoder added four kills as well and tallied four digs and an ace. Melea Farmer handed out a team-high six assists and had six digs and a kill and Saedee Jackson had three kills and a dig.
Trenton also got two kills, five digs and an assist from Allena Allen and a kill, an assist and three digs from Evy McCullough.Gilcy Ando had two aces and a dig, Laura Carlson had five digs and Olivia Roberts had one dig.
vs. LEBLOND
On Tuesday night, Trenton traveled to St. Joseph to face LeBlond. The result was the same as the night before as Trenton fell in straight games, 25-18, 25-15.
The Bulldogs dug a huge hole, falling behind 21-6 in the opening game with the Golden Eagles. Nine-straight service points from Savannah Martin, however, brought Trenton back. The Bulldogs would win 12-of-15 points to draw within 24-18, but LeBlond finally ended the threat, taking game point.
“We did not start off very well in the first set,” Trenton Head Coach Amanda King said. “We were not able to return a serve consistently. However, Savannah stepped up with nine huge serves and with some mistakes on LeBlond’s end we were able to close the gap. Our girls started reading their hits better and adjusted when we needed it.”
Trenton opened the second game playing well as the momentum of the run in game one carried over, but LeBlond adjusted. Trenton continued to work hard, but the Golden Eagles proved to be too much, handing Trenton a 25-15 loss in game two to pick up the victory.
Individual statistics from the LeBlond match were unavailable as of press time.
The two losses this week dropped Trenton to 9-13-3 overall on the season.
The Bulldogs will close out the regular season next week, playing host to St. Joseph Christian on Monday for senior night and then traveling to Savannah to take on the Savages on Tuesday. Both matches next week are scheduled for 5 p.m. starts.
