For the second time in as many nights, the Trenton High School softball team run-ruled a Linn County school.
After defeating Marceline at home on Senior Night on Monday, Trenton traveled to Brookfield and made short work of their fellow Bulldogs, returning home with a 14-2 win in six innings on Tuesday.
Trenton was on Brookfield from the get-go, plating five runs in the top of the first inning. The Bulldogs would score in each of the first four innings, taking a 10-0 lead into the fifth. Brookfield was able to extend the life of the game by a frame, scoring two in the bottom of the fifth to fend off the run rule. Trenton answered with four in the top of the sixth, however, and that would be it.
Ainsley Tolson was the winning pitcher for Trenton, working four scoreless frames and allowing four hits while striking out four. McKayla Blackburn threw the fifth and sixth, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five.
At the plate, Blackburn was four-for-four with a double and Mykah Hurley was four-for-five with two doubles and two RBIs. Taylor Richman was three-for-four with a home run, double and two RBIs and Sidney Lynch had her second home run in as many nights, going two-for-four with the long ball and three RBIs.
Maci Moore and Lexi Whitaker were each two-for-four with a double and Whitaker added a pair of RBIs. Chandler Lynch had an RBI for Trenton as well.
With the win, Trenton improved to 21-2 overall on the season.
The Bulldogs traveled to Cameron on Thursday. Information from that game can be found at www.republican-times.com. Trenton closes the regular season on Monday, traveling to Chillicothe to take on the Hornets at 5 p.m.

Trenton’s junior varsity fell 12-7 to Brookfield, dropping the team to 2-7 overall.
