It may not have been the most ideal weekend weather, but that didn’t stop Serve Trenton volunteers from tackling community improvement projects on Saturday and Sunday. According to Doug Franklin, who helped coordinate the Serve Trenton event, work ranged from cleaning gutters and staining decks to replacing steps and painting an entire house. Volunteers were also able to provide firewood for an area family to burn during the winter, a last-minute project that Franklin said was able to be answered within a couple of hours after the call for volunteers was made. Franklin said there are a few projects remaining to be completed, which he said will be done within the next few weeks. Although no official numbers were kept, Franklin said between 60 and 70 volunteers worked on Saturday while Sunday’s numbers were between 30 to 40. Plans are already under way for next year’s event, which will be held the last weekend in September (Sept. 28-29, 2019).
