THS Classes Hold Alumni Weekend Activities

Trenton High School alumni gathered in Trenton for their annual Labor Day weekend celebration. Classes providing information about their events include:
Classes of 1936-43
Twelve different classes met together on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Dino’s Diner for lunch honoring the classes of 1936-43.
Mary Lou Crawford served as emcee for the meeting and welcomed the guests. Each one gave their name and a brief message. Mrs. Crawford mentioned that Bonnie Moore had done all of the decorations since the class of 1943 met for the first time in 1968, making a large black and gold table decoration for the 50th celebration in 1993. That decoration had been used at every reunion since that time. This year it was dismantled and used to make smaller arrangements, which included a flag with the year of each class present painted on it. Those present honored Mrs. Moore for her decorations over the years.
Max Oyler gave the blessing before lunch was served. Mrs. Crawford told about some memories she had of her high school years and encouraged everyone to view the window decorations that some of the classes had done. She also recognized Steve Maxey and John Holcomb for their work with the THS Alumni Association.
Those present and the class they represent were Max Oyler, 1936; Dorothy Turner McMullen, 1939; Don Woodard, Huel Campbell’s widow Marian, Cathy Tiegert, in memory of her mother Donna Armstrong Wharton, 1941; Louis Watkins of Maryville and Mary Lou Pew Crawford, Bonnie Gass Moore, Paul H. Sawyer, Bob Witten, Cleora Witten McReynolds, all of Trenton, 1943; Mary Lou Hein Jackson of Kearney, 1944; Donald McCullough of Crawford, CO, 1945; Arlene Elliott Garrison, who was honored for being the homecoming queen, 1946; Deloris Gates Kimm of Independence, 1957; Charlotte Moore Hoskins and Lana Kennedy Snider, (also in memory of her mother Doris Gates Kennedy, class of 1941) 1964; Marilyn Carpenter of Kansas City, 1961; Elaine Garrison of 1975; and Lisa Watkins of Maryville, Visitors were Sue Peyton Woldridge of St. Louis, 1964; and Lonny Veach of Allen, TX, 1963, who brought greetings from Letty Veach McAllister of Checotah, OK, 1943.
Class of 1947
The THS Class of 1947 met for lunch on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Royal Inn Pizza to celebrate its 71st reunion.
Lovice Crawford gave the blessing before the meal. The afternoon was spent visiting and taking photos.
Those attending were Phyllis Peery Anderson, Peggy Wales Tharp, Hazel Terry, Lovice Daniels Crawford and husband, Charles (Class of 1944), all of Trenton; Barbara Shaw Vandevender of Spickard; and Gerald Witten and wife, Mary Ann of Emporia, KS. Messages were received from Betty Hamilton McCullough, Allene DeVorss Meike, Lulu Keith Hudspeth and Arlen Asher.
Class of 1952
Members of the THS Class of 1952 celebrated their 66th reunion with a luncheon on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Dino’s Diner.
Ed Holt gave the welcome, followed by the invocation by Paul Persell. Marilyn Whitacre read greetings from classmates Marilyn Kelso Chips, Rex Burress, Patsy McCracken Hill, Darlene Crow Hamsher, Gloria Runge Speer and Ada Mae Ward Branham. Deceased classmates George Klinginsmith and Maxine Wilson Pennell were remembered and condolences were expressed for the spouses of Jerry Berlin and Zora Hundley.
It was voted to retain the current planning committee of Ed Holt, Paul Persell, Leon Spencer, Dixie Brown and Marilyn Whitacre. It was decided to hold a reunion next year at Dino’s Diner. Members were also reminded of the monthly coffee/breakfast held on the second Thursday of each month at 8:30 a.m. at Dino’s Diner.

Class of 1956
The THS Class of 1956 met for dinner on Saturday, Sept. 1 at the North Central Missouri College cafeteria with 35 present, including 24 class members.
A memorial service was held for 50 deceased class members, including a balloon release. Door prizes were won by Larry and Phyllis Evans, John Wynne, Lloyd Canning, Bob White, Shirley and Frank Todd, JoAnn and Nolan Craig, Alice Gardner, Phyllis Hess, Curtis Scott, Ruth Wynne and Ann Brinser.
Officers elected were Bill Brinser, president; Coleen Scott, treasurer; and Patty Murphy, secretary. It was voted to have a 65th reunion in 2021.

Class of 1968
The THS Class of 1968 celebrated 50 years during a catered meal on Saturday, Sept. 1 at the Red Barn Event Center.
Sixty-four members and spouses attended the event, during which time the class voted to make a donation to the Foundation Trust of THS. It was announced the class won second place in the window decorating contest. Classmates who had passed away were remembered and a Vietnam veteran was recognized with a standing ovation. Following the program, several friends of the class stopped by for a visit. The planning committee included Greg Bell James Hughes, Jane Cooksey, Dale Johnson, Connie Akers, Gayla Batson and Marlene Ralston.
Those attending from out of town were Jim Hughes, Kenneth Rader and wife, Max and Nancy Williams, Mike and Martha Arbuckle, Greg and Dixie Bell, Fred and Genene Sager, Mary Rogers, John Sheets and Joy Stevenson, Tom Holley, Mike Costello, Jim Gibson, Ron and Vanda Halan, Terry Andereck, Dick and Mary Boehner, Dennis and Mary Gray, Scott Allen, Marianne Ratliff, Don and Linda Sipes, David and Mary Anne Seymour, Diane Stolzberg, Barbara Babb, Jack and Cheri Boehner, Jay and Martha Bagby, Jim and Kay Eberle, Ed and Cathy McCarty, Cindy Brown and Richard Talley.
Attending from the Trenton area were Mike and Jane Cooksey, Gayla Batson, Joe Betz, Larry and Lana Beverlin, Marlene and Tony Ralston, Connie Akers and Ray Rinehart, Tom and Karen Lynch, Dale and Rhonda Johnson, Larry and Janice Huffstutter, David and Terri Reid, Quentin and Linda Brown and Mack and Deb Woodard. Guests were Sue Huffstutter and Bill and Elaine Walker. Honored guests were Jerry and Shirley Curley and Robert Crow.
Class of 1973
THS Class of 1973 celebrated its 45th class reunion on Saturday, Sept. 1 at the enclosed shelterhouse in upper Moberly Park.  Dr. Beverly Wade Hooker welcomed all returning class members and introduced special guests, including former high school administrator, Mike Dennis and his wife, Maryetta of Camdenton and former high school instructors, Ray and Peggy Bradley, Buddy Hannaford and his wife, Karla and Ron McCullough, all of Trenton.  Dr. Hooker encouraged all class members to take time to view all alumni-decorated windows in downtown Trenton.  The 1973 class window was decorated and dedicated in memory of all deceased classmates. Robert Duncan spearheaded the efforts on behalf of the class. The class prepared a special memorial at the reunion site, a Volkswagon Beetle in honor and remembrance of Celia Vaughn, long-time Trenton High School secretary. The vehicle was loaned by Trenton residents Brad and Christy Tolson.
Dr. Hooker presented several door prizes to class members. Winners included Debra Smith Cassity, Brenda Bennett Bailey, Douglas Crawford, Ron Thomas, Kenneth Weaver, Daphne Browning McClure and Brenda Roberts Smith.  The class presented Dr. Hooker and Robert Duncan with gifts thanking them for all their work in the planning and preparation for the 45th reunion.  A pulled pork meal, with all the trimmings was served, followed by a class photo and a historical landmark scavenger hunt in and around the city of Trenton. Members of the winning team for the scavenger hunt were Keith and Debbie Bingham Allen, Steve and Cyndie Babb Caldwell and Brenda Bennett Bailey.
Attending from out of town were Brenda Bennett Bailey of St. Johns, FL, Richard and Sharon McCollum Brummitt of Waukegan, IL, Debra Smith Cassity of Chillicothe, Sue Webster Chappell and John Stockstill of Springfield, Tom and Ellen Guess Dean of Parkville, Karen Gibson Janzen of Hutchison, KS, Tom and Karen Hickman Lynch of Spickard, Daphne Browning McClure of Kansas City, Duane Molloy of Chillicothe, Dennis and Carol Rousselot Nichols of Leawood, KS and Ron Thomas of Albany. Attendees from Trenton included Keith and Debbie Bingham Allen,  Steve and Cyndie Babb Caldwell, Douglas Crawford, Robert Duncan, Steve and Tammy Wisner Gondringer, Martin and Jackie Weakly Griffin, Beverly Wade Hooker, Steve Newton, Susan Burress Plumb, Brenda Roberts Smith, Kenneth and Vicki Hughes Weaver and Jim Williams.
