Local Veterans Service Officer Wayne Kleinschmidt said the service officer will be available on Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hy-Vee and on Sept. 14 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the VFW Hall. Those meeting with the officer are asked to bring all VA and military paperwork with them.
In addition, a counselor from the Kansas City Veterans Center will be in Trenton on Sept. 14 to provide counseling services. The counselor will be at the VFW Hall from 8 a.m. to noon.
Volunteer drivers are also needed to drive the shuttle for veterans needing transportation for VA medical appointments. Transportation is provided free of charge and training is available for those willing to volunteer as drivers. The shuttle runs primarily to Kansas City on Wednesday.
Persons wanting to volunteer as a driver or veterans needing transportation to their appointments can call 359-2078. Those making arrangements for transportation are asked to provide their name, the last four numbers of their Social Security Number, the date and destination of travel and the number of persons who will be going. The shuttle is available on a first-come, first-service basis.
