Lions Club Holds Meeting

Aug 30, 2018 | Headline News

The Trenton Lions Club met on Tuesday, Aug. 28 at the First Christian Church Family Activity Center.
President Seth Cox led the pledge to the flag, followed by prayer by Rev. Steve Martin. George Moore served as “tail twister.”
Dr. John Holcomb presented the program on the history of fairs and festivals celebrated in the Trenton area. The first recorded fair took place in 1858, however, the North Central Missouri Fair Association was not organized until 1950. In addition to the annual fair, the Trenton Alumni celebration has been held during the Labor Day weekend each year since the formation of the alumni association in 1948. Alumni association members are responsible for maintaining the alumni data base and allocations of trust funds for approved projects. Other annual festivals mentioned by Dr. Holcomb were the Missouri Day Festival (1985), the addition of Marching Band Day to the Missouri Day Festival (1991), the Gooseberry Festival (2004), and Holiday Hoops (2005). Each of these fairs/festivals brings hundreds of visitors to Trenton.
During the business meeting, treasurer Jim Cox gave an updated financial report on the project fund. A $500 donation will be presented to Trenton Bright Futures.
The next meeting will be a business meeting at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
