Girls Place Sixth At Maryville Best Ball Tournament

Aug 28, 2018 | Golf, Sports & Recreation

The Trenton gofers opened the season at Mozingo Lake on Monday, competing in the Maryville Best Ball Tournament.
Trenton took just three golfers to the event, but that was enough to garner a team score at the tournament – one that placed Trenton sixth out of 13 schools.
Werthen Gass carded a 91 on the day, ranking her third individually in the 66-golfer field. Gass scored a 42 on the front nine and a 49 on the back to arrive at her total.
The tournament was played in best ball format with each school being allowed three teams of two. The top two scores for each school made up the team score. Gass played alone with Trenton bringing just three players to the tournament, so her score of 91 counted for half of Trenton’s team mark.
The other score came from the duo of Oakley Madden and Maci Henson, who combined for a score of 112. Henson shot a 119 individually and Madden finished at 136.
“(Mozingo) is a tough course to begin with and the wind made it brutal at times,” Trenton Coach Travis Mullenix said. “Werthen had three holes that hurt her, but she was able to keep it together and finish third on a course that will host the state tournament this year.”
