Classes began Tuesday in the Trenton R-9 and Laredo R-7 school districts, with Trenton showing a healthy increase in the number of enrolled students and Laredo recording a slight decrease over the first day last year.
Trenton R-9
The Trenton R-9 School District had 1,098 students enrolled on the first day of class this year, a number that is 26 students higher than the first day of the 2017-2018 school year. There are 395 students enrolled in grades kindergarten through four at Rissler Elementary School, with 343 students at Trenton Middle School, the attendance center for students in grades five through eight. Trenton High School has 360 students enrolled in grades nine through 12. The largest class this year is the sophomore class with 108 students, while the smallest class is the third grade with 65 students.
Enrollment, by grade, is kindergarten, 89; first, 88; second, 72; third, 65; fourth, 81; fifth, 84; sixth, 90; seventh, 87; eighth, 82; freshmen, 92; sophomores, 108; juniors, 79; and seniors, 81.
Classes at Trenton R-9 Preschool begin on Thursday.
Laredo R-7
The Laredo R-7 School District had 37 students enrolled on the first day, down four students from last year’s first day total of 41.
Enrollment, by grade, is kindergarten, 5; first, 3; second, 5; third, 3; fourth, 4; fifth, 3; sixth, 4; seventh, 8; and eighth, 2.
