Mrs. Ortega was born in 1952 in Denver, CO, the oldest daughter of eight children born to Daniel and Rhea Mitchell. She started her family in Denver before homesteading in Boswell, OK for several years where she worked as a doctor’s assistant at the Boswell Health Clinic. Mrs. Ortega excelled at many vocations. She ran a successful in-home childcare center called The Kids’ Korral. She began a successful career with the Missouri Department of Corrections, beginning in 1993 as an officer. She worked in various correctional institutions in Missouri, excelling at all she set out to do. She advanced to sergeant and eventually to Investigator One. In a career shift, she graduated with her LPN from Santon Brown College in Kansas City in 2004 and went on to be awarded Nurse of the Year at Cameron Veteran’s Home. She also worked at various other places, taking care of many residents. In her last years she worked at the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department as a booking officer.
Her greatest passion was serving the Lord and her family. She also acquired her ministerial license. She loved spending time with and telling stories about her family, and how God worked in her life.
