Grand River Garden Club Meets

Members of the Grand River Garden Club met on June 18 at the home of Jack and Marilyn Bain. Doris Provorse was the co-hostess.
A salad and dessert luncheon was served. Members recited the club collect to open the meeting.
Dorothy Taul gave a report on the upcoming flower show at the North Central Missouri Fair to be held on Thursday, Aug. 2. Entries will be taken from 8:30 to 10:30 on that morning. She also presented members with a complete entry listing. Members signed up to volunteer to help. She also reported members will teach flower gardening and specimen arranging classes to local scouts and 4-H members next school year to spark interest in growing flowers by the next generation.
Member reported the tulips were trimmed and mulch was placed at the Civil War statue at the Grundy County Courthouse.
Judith Urich reported that the home of Dale and Tawny Ward received the Yard of the Month for May. The Beautification Award went to Global Instruments. Discussion was held regarding possible recipients for the upcoming months.
Ginny Johns told of a mini field trip to Comanche Acres Iris Gardens near Gower.
Betty Rumbley, Marilyn Woodley and Linda Carman won door prizes.
Mrs. Bain gave members a tour of her flower beds. She named plantings and told of their care. Mrs. Bain was very knowledgeable of how to best plant and care for specific plants. Members discussed plants and treatment of trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials. She showed members her file of purchase tags to share correct names of plants in which members showed an interest.
The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. on July 16 at the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library. Ginny Johns will have the program and Linda Carman will serve ice cream sundaes.
