Wes Croy, seen here during a game in 2013, guided the Bulldogs from 2005-2013, amassing a record of 56-40. He will return to the sidelines this season as the team’s offensive coordinator under current head coach Brandon Boswell.

It wasn’t like Croy didn’t enjoy being able to watch his son’s career unfold solely as a fan, but anyone who crossed paths with him on a game night knew the passion for coaching still burned within.
When Trenton takes the field this fall, Croy will be back on the sidelines in a coaching position.
At the Trenton R-9 School Board meeting on Tuesday night, Croy was hired as an assistant coach. He will serve as the Bulldogs’ offensive coordinator this season.
“First off, I would like to thank the R-9 Board of Education and (Head) Coach (Brandon) Boswell for giving me the opportunity to get back into something I really enjoy,” Croy said. “I’m thankful I got to spend the past four years watching games as a dad. It was a wonderful experience, but the itch and the desire to coach football never really left and I’m grateful for the chance to be a part of it again.”
Boswell, entering his fifth season, will remain the team’s head coach and Croy will also continue his post as the school’s athletic director.
“He will call the plays offensively, essentially,” Boswell said. “We are going back to split-back veer, which is what he feels most comfortable with. He will do that and be in charge of the quarterbacks on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, he will help coach in the secondary, so those will be his responsibilities.”
Through a nine-year run as the Trenton head football coach, Croy compiled a record of 56-40. Croy was a head coach at Schuyler County, Maysville and South Harrison prior to coming home to Trenton, from where he graduated in 1985. He also had a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Kearney High School between his stops at Schuyler and Maysville. Croy was inducted into the Missouri Football Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame last December.
“Other than (his initial responsibilities), he is just kind of with the other guys, the other assistants,” Boswell said. “He will help break down film from a defensive standpoint and I will give him data columns that he has to watch film and fill out. It will be kind of interesting having a former head coach and a Hall of Fame coach as an assistant, but he has shown that he is very excited.”
In a corresponding move, Greg Dalrymple, who served as the team’s offensive coordinator last year, will return to the press box to be the team’s “eye in the sky.” Dalrymple held that position through the 2016 season before coming down to be OC last year. Andy Hight, who was in the box last season, is leaving the school to take a baseball coaching position at Rock Bridge in Columbia.
The Trenton Bulldogs will kick off their 2018 campaign on Friday, Aug. 24 when they travel to Lathrop to take on the Mules. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
