Salary adjustments were approved by the Grundy R-5 Board of Education during its meeting on Monday night.
The board voted to allow only those teachers who can move a step on the salary schedule for a year of experience to be moved. The base teacher salary will remain at $29,200. The board had previously agreed to cover the cost increase for employee health insurance for next year, which will increase to $574 per employee and will cost the district approximately $23,400.
The board set a special meeting for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 28 at the high school to amend the 2017-18 budget and approve the 2018-19 budget.
The board accepted the resignation of elementary teacher Melanie Baxter and, following an executive session, voted to hire Jeni Moore and Denessa Derry as elementary instructors. Other personnel items addressed included hiring Taylor Ormsby as the K-12 guidance counselor, Neva Harkins and Shelly Cunningham as elementary cooks and Shontel Cross as half-time music teacher and half-time elementary paraprofessional. The board accepted a bid from MFA for bus fuel at a cost of two cents below pump price as well as a bid from Ferrellgas for propane at a cost of $1.08 per gallon. The Ferrellgas bid was the lowest of three received. Other bids approved were from Prairie Farms for milk products and Galt Hometown Grocery for miscellaneous food purchases. They were the only bids received.
Approval was given to a bid from Terry Blattner to put in a handicapped accessible ramp at the ag building at a cost of $2,300. The board approved continued participation in the A-Plus program and agreed to advertise for someone to paint the elementary gym and stage and the high school hallways. Two new board policies were approved.
The board discussed several maintenance items being addressed this summer and heard a report from the special education director. ACT scores were discussed with the board and recognition was given to students named to the fourth quarter honor roll at the high school.
The next regular board meeting date will be announced later.
