Wright Memorial Hospital recently purchased a new mobile x-ray machine. This new, state-of-the-art machine can be easily moved around to different areas of the hospital for patients who are immobilized and cannot, or should not, be transported to the imaging department. The unit is completely wireless and digital. Once the x-ray is taken, the first image will appear in three seconds, and within 10 seconds, the images will be fully developed. In less than one minute, the images can be in the hands of a radiologist, ready to be read. The machine has a list price of nearly $300,000. However, because Wright Memorial Hospital is a Saint Luke’s Health System facility, the purchasing power of Saint Luke’s allowed Wright Memorial to purchase the machine for around half price.
