Vera May Jeffers, an 80-year-old resident of Laredo, died on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at her home in Laredo.
A visitation was held from 3 to 5 p.m. today (Tuesday, May 29, 2018) at Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home of Trenton. The body was cremated following the visitation.
Mrs. Jeffers was born on April 16, 1938 in Melcher Dallas, IA, the daughter of Clarence Henry and Darlene Bernice Phillips Southwick. After raising her six children, she completed her high school education by receiving her GED in Sioux City, IA. She was well-known as a giving person and for her love of indoor plants. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Surviving relatives include her children, David Southwick and his wife, Paige of Laredo, Duane Jeffers of Laredo, Shelletta McLain and her husband, Chad of Des Moines, IA, Dennis Jeffers and his wife, Nicole of Des Moines, Kathy Reeder of Trenton and Casandra Gathercole and her husband, David of Des Moines; a brother, Vern Southwick of Lacona, IA; 27 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Arthur and Carl Southwick; a sister-in-law, Louise Southwick; and a son-in-law, Gary Reeder.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Grundy County Food Pantry and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
