May 18, 2018 | Headline News

Room rates at the Sunnyview Nursing Home and Apartments will be going up effective July 1 following action taken last week by the Grundy County Nursing Home Board of Directors.
According to information supplied by Administrator Donita Youtsey, daily room rates will increase by $5 for both the nursing home and residential care apartments. The new room rates will be $157 per day for private rooms and $152 per day for a semi-private room. Residential care apartment rates will be $95 per day for a single Unit A apartment, $98 per day for the single unit B apartments, $113 for the single unit C apartments and $185 per day for double unit apartments. Sunnyview is also offering adult day care at a rate of $80 per day.
Mrs. Youtsey said that even with the daily room rate increase, the Sunnyview rates will still remain one of the lowest in the area.
The board heard information about employee health insurance coverage and approved the current minimum essential health insurance plan with Life Styles, with the rate remaining the same; and the comprehensive medical plan with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, which is increasing by $40. The new rates would take place on July 1. The employee cost for the Life Styles minimum essential coverage is $5 per month and the employee cost for the BCBS base plan will increase to $401.83 per month per employee. Employees have the choice of purchasing a minimal essential coverage plan or the comprehensive plan.
Several bids were approved by the board with Ferrell Gas having the best bid for propane at a cost of $1.249 per gallon. Also approved was the bid from WCA of $655.86 per month for trash pickup, which was the lowest bid received. Bill Brinser received the bid to bale hay on nursing home property at a cost of $10 per bale. Automatic Payroll Services will be providing services to the nursing home district, including more automated payroll processing as well as an employee portal for online viewing of check stubs, schedules, training and W2 forms.
The board voted to apply for a federal loan to fund replacement of the boiler in the original portion of the nursing home with a variable refrigerant flow heating and cooling system. This will allow for more individual temperature control for each resident’s room. Also included in the project will be new windows for the original portion of the nursing home as well as the original apartments. Energy Solutions Professionals will start installation on the other energy projects involving new LED lighting throughout the facility, water efficiency with new toilets and water fixtures and building infiltration issues around the doors.
Assistant Administrator Matt Arthaud reported on National Nursing Home Week activities as well as an informational meeting on Medicaid and Medicare planning, set for 6 p.m. on May 30. KC Elder Law will present the program, which is being offered to the public at no cost.
A free community ice cream social is planned for 7 p.m. on July 6. Music will be provided by the group “Servants on Most High.”
The board will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday in the conference room of the nursing home to consider the 2018-19 budget.
