Frieda Katherine Kirby Miller, an 81-year-old resident of Cameron, died on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at The Village in Cameron.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Prairie Ridge Cemetery in Modena.
A family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home in Cameron.
Frieda was born in Modena on Sept. 24, 1936. She and her twin brother, Frederick Casper Kirby, were the fifth and sixth children born to C.W. Kirby and Wilma Butcher Kirby. Twins were rare in the area at the time and they were quite the talk of the community.
Freida’s father and mother operated the drugstore and post office in Modena. All the children worked there as they became old enough. An outdoor movie was shown each week at the side of the drugstore. Freida sold tickets to the movie, making change from a muffin tin. There were no televisions or computers, so the children played outside all day. They played hopscotch, hide-and-seek, rode stilts and swam in the creek.
Frieda attended Modena Grade School, Princeton High school and graduated from the University of Kansas City with a degree in business administration. She was employed by AT&T for 30 years. She worked as a sales associate for Jones/Macy’s for 20 years.
Freida was married on May 22, 1965 to Robert Neville Miller, who preceded her in death on March 20, 2015.
Survivors include a brother, Warren Kirby of Trenton; a sister, Louella Horning of Walnut Grove, CA; and three step-daughters, Linda Greenlee, Susie Berry and Deanna Sickles. Frieda was affectionately called “Aunt Fee” by her nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Frederick Casper Kirby; another brother, Thomas Kirby; and a sister, Ramona Paulus.
Memorial donations may be made to Prairie Ridge Cemetery at Modena and/or the Modena Community Center in Modena.
