The Building and Nuisance Board of the Trenton City Council is getting to work on its 2018-19 demolition program, having sent letters to property owners who have indicated their wish to be included.
During a meeting on Monday night, board members were told the letters provided information regarding this year’s program, which has been allocated $20,000 by the city council. As was the case a year ago, the city will pay up to 50 percent of the demolition cost and hazardous material inspection fees up to a maximum of $1,750, with the property owners responsible for the other 50 percent as well as all costs exceeding $3,500 for demolition work. That money is to be paid to the city within 30 days of a demolition agreement being signed with the city. The owner is also responsible for 100 percent of all hazardous abatement cost.
Property owners wanting to be included on this year’s list of potential projects are asked to submit a letter of intent to participate to Building Inspector Donnie Vandevender no later than May 10 (the letter is available at city hall) so that the bid process can begin. It is hoped bids can be brought back to the board for consideration at its June 25 meeting.
In other business, the board designated five properties for declaration of nuisance. They include 1404 Lulu, owned by Russell and Beatrice Shaw; 412 E. 10th St., owned by Thomas and Katie Snow and Phillip Drennon; 1103 E. 13th Ct., owned by Bart Shaw; 1312 Gilmore, owned by Marvin Knapp; and 1414 Lulu St., owned by Daryl and Amanda Williams.
Properties moved to a public hearing on June 23 were 305 E. 10th St., owned by RDM Investments; 503 W. 12th St., owned by Ron Silkwood; 501 W. Crowder Road, owned by Donald and Twylia Whitney; and 3726 E. 28th St., owned by Jeremy Hamilton. Property at 1104 E. 23rd St., owned by Greg Freeman, was removed from the list after the structure had been demolished and the yard seeded. Tabled was property at 1104 E. 23rd St., owned by Faron Lawrence and Danette Teel.
Moved to Findings of Fact were properties at 1821 Lulu St., owned by Vern and Katherine Jenkins; and 2303 Chicago St., owned by Peggy and Lee Simmons.
