Lathan Croy shot an 80 at the Richmond Tournament on Friday at the Shirkey Golf Course.
It’s a respectable score, especially at a tournament that includes schools the size of Rockhurst, Liberty and Staley. But as strong as Croy has been golfing lately, it’s a score Croy maybe feels is beneath him.
“It was a grind today,” Trenton Coach Travis Mullenix said. “Lathan finished one shot off earning a medal. He didn’t have his good stuff today, but that’s still a respectable round. It was some pretty stiff competition.”
Croy shot twin 40’s on the front and back nines to reach his score of 80. That tied him for 15th overall at the tournament with five other golfers. The top 15 earn medals at the tournament, but Croy lost out on a scorecard playoff.
After Croy, Trenton’s next golfer was Mason Owen, who shot a 111, placing him 85th in the 100-golfer field. Lucas Clark finished at 112, Gavin Roeder shot a 115 and Max McNabb finished with a 116.
As a team, Trenton carded a 418, placing the Bulldogs 18th in the 20-team field.
“Being their first time seeing Shirkey and its ferocious geese, I was proud of the way the rest of the team handled themselves,” Mullenix said. “It’s a challenging course, especially the first time around.”
Rockhurst won the tournament with a team score of 311. Pembroke Hill was runner-up at 319, topping LeBlond (319) on the fifth-player score tiebreaker. Liberty (323) and Warrensburg (328) rounded out the top five at the event.
