The Trenton High School wrestling team met one final time on Tuesday night to celebrate the recently completed season. In all, 16 wrestlers and three managers were honored for their efforts during the 2017-2018 season.
The season saw the Bulldogs run an 11-12 dual record, send three wrestlers to the state tournament and come home with two medals from the event.
Jadan Whitney (195) was third at state and Mason Owen (220) was sixth. Both were honored as Academic All-State selections at Tuesday’s banquet as well. Whitney earned honors for the most takedowns on the season with 94 and had the top record for a junior on the team, going 38-6. Owen had the top record for a senior, going 37-8.
Other awards on the night included the most falls, which went to Mark Trump (24), who was also a state qualifier alongside Whitney and Owen; the most escapes, which went to Eric Lovett (53); the most reversals, which went to Lovett as well (26); the most near falls, which went to Noah Lewis (22); the best record for a freshman, which went to Brice Gibler (15-33); and the best record for a sophomore, which went to Trump (32-20).
Other wrestlers honored at the banquet included Lucas Clark, Nick Wattenbarger, Hunter Trask, Jarvis Collis, Aaron Ferrell, Jake McNabb, Logan Virtue, Payden McCullough, Canyon VonBurg and Quincy Griffin. Managers recognized were Emma Rorebeck, Mackenzie McAtee and Jaycie Griffin.
