A three-run first inning set the tone and the North Central Missouri College softball team finished strong in a 7-1 victory over the Park University junior varsity on Thursday on Griffin Field in Trenton. Game two would go to Park, however, as the Pirates fell 8-5.
North Central plated the trio of runs in the bottom of the first inning of game one and held the 3-0 advantage until the top of the third, when Park got on the board with a lone run. That would be the visitor’s only run, however and North Central tacked on two in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth, pulling away for the six-run victory.
Kendra Holt had three hits in the win, driving in a run and scoring another. Kaitlyn Marsh was two-for-three with a home run and three RBIs and Alex Miller was two-for-four with two RBIs. Marsh also picked up the win in the circle, moving to 3-0 on the season.
North Central moved to 5-1 as a team on the season with the split. The Pirates will be at home again on Sunday, playing host to Ellsworth Community College in a doubleheader that is set to begin at 2 p.m. at Griffin Field in Trenton.
