Two properties were removed from the Building and Nuisance Board’s list during Monday night’s meeting.
The board determined that the properties at 825 W. Crowder Road, owned by Bill Grubb and1909 Carnes St., owned by Rogelio Olivio, had met the abatement criteria and will no longer have any nuisance actions taken against them. Board members thanked both men for their efforts. It was also noted that property at 721 E. 19th, owned by Charles Ellis, has also been abated.
The board gave John Woodland until the June 25 meeting to “show significant progress” on property he has at 1103 E. 17th St., including repairs to the inside and outside of the structure. It was noted that several improvements had been made to the property and Woodland said it is his intention “to make sure the work is done right,” which he said means it will take some time.
The board tabled action for 30 days on property at 409 E. 19th St., owned by Dorothy Althorff, to allow more work to be done. Property at 2002 Chicago St., owned by Dwayne Couch, was moved to a public hearing. Findings of facts were declared on property at 302 E. Seventh St., owned by Susan and Gary Jacobs; 509 Jackson St., owned by Bret and Penny Buswell; 923 Custer St., owned by Odell Barnes LLC; and 1715 Lulu St., owned by John Boyles.
Certificates of existence of a dangerous building are to be filed on property at 701 E. Sixth St., owned by Daniel Harkins, and 725 W. 17th St., owned by Angela Summers Woodworth. Declaration of nuisances were approved for property at 1721 Lulu St., owned by Vern and Katherine Jenkins, and 2303 Chicago St., owned by Peggy and Lee Simmons.
Code Enforcement Donnie Vandevender was asked to contact the new owners of property at 3726 E. 28th St. about previous action taken by the board to declare that property a nuisance before it was sold. The board said they want to give the new owner a chance to make improvements to the property before initiating any proceedings.
