Charges are pending against an individual who is accused of stealing a Grundy County Ambulance.
The individual, whose name has not been released, is in custody in the Grundy County Detention Center pending the filing of formal charges. Charges are expected to be filed later today.
The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Trenton Police Chief Tommy Wright said that the ambulance was stolen while parked at Wright Memorial Hospital.
Based on the investigation and eyewitnesses, the ambulance was stolen by a male subject from Trenton, who had been seeking medical treatment at the hospital. Chief Wright said the male subject exited the emergency room, entered the ambulance and then drove the vehicle away.
The ambulance was later recovered by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office in a remote area in the southeastern portion of Grundy County. The suspect was located in the area of the ambulance and was taken into custody without incident.
