Grundy R-5 Boys 69, Brashear Boys 34
The Grundy R-5 High School boys basketball team opened district play on Monday at Linn County High School in Purdin with a 69-34 victory over Brashear in opening round play.
Caden Gann had 16 points to pace the Panthers, which also got 14 points and six steals from Wayne Baxter. Tanner Williams added 10 point sand Bryson Gann finished the game with eight points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots.
Grundy advances to the district semifinals where they will face Green City on Wednesday.
The win was a bounce back for the Panthers, who fell 80-34 on Thursday to Pattonsburg in the regular-season finale. Bryson Gann led Grundy in the loss, scoring 12 points.

Grundy R-5 Girls 67, Bucklin/Macon County Girls 36
The Grundy R-5 girls scored a 67-36 victory over Bucklin/Macon County on Saturday as the Class 1, District 11 Tournament opened in Purdin.
Jandie Peterson led Grundy with 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists and Aubrey Gann added 14 points and Mady Williams had 12 points and six assists. Anna Milazzo reached double figures as well, scoring 10 points to go with eight rebounds. Morgan Axtell had eight points and seven assists.
Grundy is scheduled to play Brashear in the semifinals tonight at 7:15, weather permitting.
Grundy defeated Pattonsburg on the road last Thursday, winning 87-34. Peterson had 18 points, four assists and four steals to lead the Panthers in that game as well. Gann and Milazzo each scored 14 points with Milazzo adding seven rebounds. Axtell had 12 points and seven assists and Williams had 11 points and seven rebounds. Briana Carpio scored 11 points as well and Ellen Baxter had five assists.

East Harrison Girls 35, Mercer Girls 34
The Mercer girls dropped their regular-season finale to East Harrison on Friday night at home, losing by a single point. Mercer trailed by the one-point margin entering the fourth quarter, but connected on just five-of-nine free throws in the final frame. East Harrison was even worse at the stripe in the final eight minutes, going just four-of-12 in the fourth, but still wound up winning 35-34.
Rayne Kost and Morgan Eastin each scored nine points to pace the Cardinals in the loss.
Mercer Boys 68, East Harrison Boys 25
The Mercer boys set the tone for their match-up with East Harrison in the first quarter, outscoring the visitors 18-3. A 24-10 run by Mercer in the second quarter pretty much sealed it as the Cardinals rolled to the 43-point win.
Austin Nix had 20 points, three steals and two assists for Mercer and Hunter Shipley went for 20 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals. Mercer also got 10 points, four steals and two assists from Cauy Taff and eight points, eight rebounds and two assists from Isaiah Morgana.
