Funeral services for Jay Edward Ratliff will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018 at the 10th Street Baptist Church in Trenton. Burial will follow at the Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton.
A visitation will be from 5 to 7 o’clock tonight (Monday, February 19, 2018) at Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton. Open visitation is under way at the mortuary.
Mr. Ratliff, a 95-year-old resident of Trenton, died at 8:15 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at the North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City.
Mr. Ratliff was born on June 2, 1922 in Grundy County in the Forks of the River area, the son of William Truman “Bump” Ratliff and Wilma Adella Brown. He was married on June 26, 1942 in Trenton to Mary Lee Kennedy.
He joined the United States Army on Dec. 1, 1942 and served until September. 17, 1945. He was in the Infantry 80th Division in Italy during World War II. He worked for Trenton Foods for 33 years before retiring. He loved dancing and gardening.
Mr. Ratliff is survived by his wife of 75 years, Mary Lee of the home; his children, Ralph Ratliff and his wife, Kathryn of Chillicothe, Ruby Reich of Trenton, Judy Railsback and her husband, Bob of Trenton, Rubert Ratliff and his wife, Kay of Gilman City and Joyce Tredway of Chula; a close family friend, Sue Knapp of Trenton; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a sister, Willa Fouty of Springdale, AR; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ratliff is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steve Ratliff; a grandson, Scott Railsback; a granddaughter, Lisa Kay Ratliff; two infant granddaughters; a son-in-law, John Tredway; and his siblings, Lulu Cox, Lloyd Ratliff, Russell Ratliff, Letha LaFollette, Jewel Gott, Clifton Ratliff, Ode Ratliff, Lester Ratliff, Helen Ratliff, Alice Thompson and Betty Farris.
