Cindy Jennings, representing the downtown group 5 Points Alive, was the guest speaker at Thursday’s meeting of the Trenton Rotary Club. Gary Black was the program chairman.
The 5 Points Alive group, which includes 16 individuals, was formed to assist with the downtown Christmas activities in 2016 and since that time has worked on other projects in the downtown area. The activities include events that are helping to raise funds for a lighting project the group hopes to do in the downtown area during the Christmas holidays. The group is sponsoring a Valentine’s Day dinner this Saturday at “The Space,” with the event already sold out. Chocolate-dipped strawberries are also being sold. Mrs. Jennings said the group is also looking at other ideas for activities and plans to help with the downtown Christmas activities in 2018.
During the business meeting, Don Purkapile was recognized as a “major donor” to the Rotary International Foundation program and was presented with a pin by President Andrea Merrin. Purkapile encouraged members to contribute to the foundation, noting the many projects which are funded, including projects within the Rotary 6040 District.
Next week’s program chairman is Cathy McKay.
