Gilman City Girls 29
The Gilman City girls were no match for top-seeded and host-school North Harrison on Monday night, opening the HDC Conference Tournament in Eagleville with a 57-29 loss. Gilman City was outscored 13-2 in the opening quarter and 16-5 in the third as the Shamrocks rolled to the win.
Megan Cottrell led the Hawks in the loss, going for 14 points and three assists. Lindsey Snuffer followed with seven points.
The Gilman City girls will now be in consolation semifinal action on Wednesday. The Hawks will face Winston at 4:45 p.m. in Eagleville.
Gilman City Boys 61,
East Harrison Boys 59
The Gilman City boys advanced to the HDC Conference Tournament semifinals with a victory over East Harrison in first round action on Monday night in Eagleville. Gilman trailed 16-7 after the opening eight minutes, but rallied with a 20-8 second-quarter run. After East Harrison trimmed two points off Gilman’s lead in the third quarter, the Hawks held on, outscoring the Bobcats 23-22 in the final frame to seal the victory.
Kaleb Bjornlie led Gilman with 20 points, eight rebounds and seven steals and Cornelius Peery followed with 19 points and eight rebounds. Mitchell Sievering added seven points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals in the win.
With the victory, Gilman City now gets a match-up with top-seeded Winston on Thursday. Tip off between the Hawks and Redbirds is set for 6 p.m.
