North Central’s Jalen Gant kept pouring in points. At the other end of the floor, however, Penn Valley kept answering.
The North Central Missouri College men’s basketball team ultimately couldn’t keep pace with the Scouts Wednesday night at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton, falling 96-84 in spite of a 36-point night by Gant.
The Pirates found themselves in a 54-37 hole at halftime after Gant scored 21 of his 36 points. He began to get a little more help in the second half, and the Pirates closed the gap, but couldn’t get past Penn Valley.
“Jalen played well,” North Central Head Coach Jeremy Esry said. “He kind of struggled the last two games, so he was focused and ready to go. He knew he had to rebound as well and I think he got quite a few of his points off of rebounds.
“But, overall it was a little disappointing. We just didn’t hit some open shots and that’s kind of been the story of our three losses, right now.”
Behind Gant, NCMC got 15 points from Jordan Reece and 12 from Cody Glenn.
The loss was the third straight for the Pirates, who fell to 10-8 overall and 1-1 in Region 16 play. All three teams in the region currently stand at 1-1.
