If the North Central Missouri College women want to challenge St. Louis for the Region 16 championship, they have some work to do.
That much was obvious Saturday as sixth-ranked St. Louis came into the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton and dismantled the 13th-ranked Pirates, 89-65.
North Central trailed 27-20 after one quarter and 47-35 at the break, but St. Louis continued to score at a high rate in the second half and the Pirates simply could not keep pace. Sarah Lamp was a bright spot in the loss for the Pirates, going for 16 points and 10 rebounds. Maddison Book added 13 points and Kendey Eaton and Madison Gonseth each finished with nine points. Ashtin Williams pulled down eight rebounds in the loss for the Pirates.
With the loss, North Central fell to 13-4 overall and established an 0-1 mark in Region 16 play.
North Central will look to shake off the defeat on Thursday, playing host to the Missouri Valley junior varsity at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton. Tip time is set for 5:30 p.m.
