Neither Grundy R-5 High School basketball team was able to bring home a trophy from the Milan Tournament on Saturday night as the girls fell 50-41 to Brashear in the third-place game and the boys lost 68-43 to Green City in the consolation game.
For the Grundy girls, Morgan Axtell led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds in the third-place game. Aubrey Gann had eight rebounds in the loss as well. Friday night’s semifinal game saw Grundy fall 67-37 to Green City. Axtell and Anna Milazzo led Grundy in that loss with eight points each. Milazzo had nine rebounds as well.
Axtell and Jandie Peterson were both selected to the All-Milan Tournament team.
Grundy’s boys were paced by Bryson Gann and Caden Gann, both of whom scored 13 points in the consolation defeat.
Grundy’s teams will return to the court on Tuesday, playing host to Tina-Avalon in a non-conference doubleheader in Galt. Action tips off at 6 p.m.
