Charles “Chuck” Williams Sr., an 85-year-old resident of Carlisle, IA, died on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017 in Des Moines, IA.
Burial with military honors took place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, IA.
Mr. Williams was born on Feb. 6, 1932 in Edenton, NC, the son of Charles and Clara Williams. He enjoyed helping others, being with family and filled his spare time woodworking.
His careers spanned the Veterans Administration, General Electric and the DC Air National Guard. He served honorably in the military for 39 years and retired as a master sergeant. He was a crew chief for numerous aircraft to include the P-51, F-86 and the F-100. He was also a flight engineer in the C-124. Deployment locations included Iceland, Goose Bay Labrador, Wake Island, Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, Guam, Spain and Germany. His aircraft was the first to arrive for disaster response during Hurricane Camille in 1969.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Amelia; his children, Leona (Dean) Powell of New Bloomfield, Susan (Carl Pivarsky) Williams of Madison, AL, Charles (Pamela) Williams Jr. of Spickard, J.B. (Sherri) Williams of Cabot, AR and Mark (Jennifer) Williams of Ft. Leavenworth, KS; a brother, Paul (Helen) Williams of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Albert, Hubert, Virginia, Helen and Jimmy.
Memorials were made to the USO and the National Kidney Foundation.
