Steven “Steve” Cary Beneke of Peculiar was born on Sept. 18, 1946 in Albert Lea, MN, the son of William C. and Beverly R. Vandermate Beneke. He departed this life on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Kansas City at the age of 71 years, three months and eight days.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan 2, 2018 at the Gospel Fellowship, 13011 Grandview Road in Grandview.
On Feb. 14, 1996, Steve was united in marriage to Curtisa Allene “Allie” Turpen in Las Vegas, NV.
Steve was a truck driver for MDZ Trucking in Shipshewana, IN. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Steve attended the Gospel Fellowship Church, Grandview when he could. Otherwise he was involved with the Cowboy Church on his radio in his truck. He enjoyed fishing and loved tinkering with stuff from small engine repair to old trucks, cars, tractors and race cars. If it wasn’t running when it was brought to him, it was when he was done with it.
Steve is survived by his wife, Allie Beneke of the home; four sons, Dale Batson and his wife, Pam of Florence, TX, Terry Batson and his wife, Wanda of Huntsville, TX, Bryan Batson and his wife, Laura of Lansing, KS and Roger Batson and his wife, Tina of Henderson, NV; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Randy Beneke of Auburn, CA, Ken Beneke and his wife, Sue of San Jose, CA, Kim Beneke and his wife, Donna of Louisville, KY and Eldy Beneke and his wife, DeDe of Sedalia; two sisters, Laurie Browning and her husband, Lester and Sue Griffin and her husband, Frank, all of Trenton; and many other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Courtney Nicole Roebuck.
