Deva Beryl McHargue, an 84-year-old resident of Gilman City, died on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 at an O’Fallon nursing home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today (Monday, Dec. 18, 2017) at the First Baptist Church in Gilman City. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery in Gilman City, under the direction of the Roberson Funeral Home of Bethany.
Mrs. McHargue was born on March 12, 1933 in Daviess County, the daughter of Moss and Jane Grace Bartlett Marshall. She worked as the postmaster of the Gilman City Post Office for over 20 years, then became the city clerk for Gilman City, serving for over 30 years.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gilman City.
She was married on July 12, 1953 at Trenton to Vernon D. “Pee Wee” McHargue, who preceded her in death on July 10, 2015.
Survivors include a son, V. J. (Judy) McHargue of St. Louis; a grandson, Vance Parker McHargue; two step-grandchildren, Scott (Jackie) Martin and Tina (Steven) Jaworski; four step-great-grandchildren, Annika and Brogan Jaworski and Justice and Journey Martin; a sister, Delores (Darrell) Ratliff of Gilman City; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Holmes, and two brothers, Forrest and Dean Marshall.
