It has been over a month since the North Central Missouri College women’s basketball team last lost a game. On Saturday at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton, the Pirates pushed their current winning streak to nine games and earning their 10th win of the season with an 88-56 rout of the William Penn University junior varsity.
North Central wasn’t messing around with a junior varsity opponent in house, taking control of the game from the opening tip and racing out to a commanding 25-12 first quarter lead.
In the second quarter, North Central appeared to lose a little momentum, only outscoring the visitors 17-15. But the second half saw a return to form for the Pirates, who put the game away with runs of 26-17 in the third quarter and 20-12 in the fourth.
The Pirates had four starters reach double figures in the victory with Madison Gonseth and Kendey Eaton tying for the team lead in points with 17 each. Gonseth added seven rebounds and Eaton also had three assists and two steals. Samm Jett followed with 11 points and three assists and Maddison Book finished with 10 points and three assists.
Off the bench, North Central got eight points, six rebounds and three steals from Nicole Kost and seven points and eight rebounds from Ashtin Williams. Sarah Lamp, North Central’s fifth starter, scored just six points in the win, but added to the victory with eight rebounds and four assists.
