Lynda Snuffer of the Salvation Army presented the program at Thursday’s meeting of the Trenton Rotary Club. Elizabeth Gibson was the program chairman.
Mrs. Snuffer said that the Salvation Army office located in Chillicothe serves both Grundy and Livingston counties, providing help to those in need. She said that 44 families in Grundy County are being helped this Christmas, with a holiday meal being provided as well as gifts for family members. She said that the Salvation Army also has a food pantry at its main location, where eligible persons can come every 30 days to receive basic food needs. There is also a “bread pantry,” which is available to persons every week. The Salvation Army also operates a thrift shop.
The Salvation Army is currently operating its “bell ringing” fundraiser, which is held each Christmas. The Trenton Rotary Club provides volunteers for that effort and Mrs. Snuffer said that all monies received stay in the local area.
The local Salvation Army will be celebrating its 130th anniversary in January, with special activities planned to recognize that milestone.
During the business meeting it was announced that the Christmas party has been moved to Thursday, Dec. 21 and would be held at 6:30 p.m. at “The Space” in downtown Trenton. Spouses are invited to attend. There will be a regular meeting on Dec. 14, which was the original date for the party.
