The Grand River Valley Choir and Orchestra will present its annual winter concert, “Musical Selections of Comfort and Joy,” at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the First Baptist Church on Oklahoma Avenue in Trenton.
The doors to the sanctuary will open at 2:30 p.m. at the conclusion of the dress rehearsal.
Grand River Valley Choir and Orchestra is presenting a spirit-filled collection of seasonal music. Among the songs planned for performance are “Sleigh Ride”, three selections from “The Nutcracker”, “A Song of Peace” and “The Hallelujah Chorus.” The overall musical director is George Brundage. Cathie Lowrey is the pianist and the orchestra director is Buddy Hannaford. The performing musicians from the choir and orchestra come from across north Missouri, including Trenton, Chillicothe, Milan, Gallatin, Cameron, Princeton, Altamont, Ludlow, Pattonsburg and Marshall.
Rehearsals have been held for the past several weeks at the Hodge Prebysterian Church, with the final rehearsals being held at First Baptist. Larry Danner of First Baptist has been providing technical support for the sound system being used.
There is no charge for the concert, however, the GRVCO will be accepting donations for the “Building Hope for the Future” building project for the Green Hills Women Shelter or for the GRVCO to assist in costs in providing programs during the year. The GRVCO recently attained the status of a public charity with a 501(c)(3) determination from the IRS. A special Donors Club is being implemented for the benefit of the Grand River Valley Choir and Orchestra and forms will be available at the concert.
Following the concert, a cookie reception will beheld in the basement of the church. The public is invited.
