Christmas Wish Application Process Open

Nov 17, 2017 | Headline News

The Trenton Kiwanis Club, in conjunction with KTTN, has opened the application process for the Christmas Wish Project.
Families who would like to enroll for the project can pick up applications at the Trenton Police Department, KTTN or Royal Inn Pizza during normal business hours beginning today (Nov. 17). Forms will need to be completed and returned by Dec. 1 to either KTTN or the Kiwanis mailing address on the form.
The program is designed to assist low income families with children ages 10 and under with Christmas gifts for their children. Each child is able to request a specific gift, valued at $30 or less. Club members attempt to keep Christmas magical for children by granting those wishes. Families must meet income guidelines to qualify with eligibility based on 2017 federal poverty guidelines.
Funding for the Christmas Wish Project comes from the generosity of area businesses and residents. There are several ways that those interested can donate. Beginning Nov. 24, KTTN will air the “wishes” of area children on the radio. An individual can purchase the specified gift and drop it off at KTTN, Royal Inn Pizza or Dave’s Body Shop.
Monetary donations will also be accepted at those same locations and will be used to purchase specific gifts. Kiwanis Club members, with the assistance of the Trenton High School Key Club, will shop in mid-December for gifts not previously donated. Toys are then wrapped and bagged for delivery to families in time for Christmas.
The community has been tremendous supporters of this project for over 30 years, something for which Kiwanis members are quite thankful. Each year we serve numerous children who otherwise would not experience the joy of a gift at Christmas.
According to project coordinator, Kara Helmandollar, the best part of the project is when the club receives assistance from someone who was previously served by the project and wants to help because of the impact it had on their life at that time.
Persons with questions may reach Mrs. Helmandollar at 359-5966. Christm
