Whortons Host Trees For Troops

Nov 14, 2017 | Headline News

For the 10th consecutive year, Jim and Bev Whorton of Trenton will host Trees for Troops at their Christmas tree farm located near Carlton, MN.
Along with other Christmas tree farmers throughout the U.S., the Whortons help provide real Christmas trees for delivery to military families in the United States and our troops overseas. Through 2016, these trees have numbered more than 193,000. FedEx delivers the trees to approximately 65 stateside and overseas bases, and has logged more than 700,000 U.S. miles for the Trees for Troops program. The trees collected this year at the Whorton’s Christmas tree farm will be delivered to Cannon AFB in New Mexico.
Trees for Troops Weekend has been designated for Dec. 2 and 3. The Whortons will have as their “guests” members of the local Cloquet, MN National Guard unit (known as “Crazy Troop 1-94 CAV”), who will not only mix and mingle with the customers, answering their questions, sharing their overseas experiences, etc., but also will help the Whortons with tagging the customers’ trees and loading them on to the FedEx trailer.
The success of this event is not possible without the financial help from customers, organizations, other tree farmers and the general public. The cost of each tree is $30. Each tree purchased is “tagged” with the donor’s name and address (and email address, if provided), along with a short greeting (if requested). The trees are then placed on the FedEx trailer for delivery. The Whortons said that through 2016, over 1,000 trees have been gathered at their farm and shipped to a stateside base.
Persons interested in participating in this event can send a check made out to Chub Lake Tree Farm with “Trees for Troops” noted in the memo portion, and mail to 1867 East Chub Lake Road, Carlton MN 55718. Credit cards are also accepted and those who prefer to make the donation by phone can call 660-635-1460 or 1461. Either way, the Whortons will see to it that a tree is “tagged” in the donor’s name and placed on the FedEx trailer.
