NCMC Picks Up Doubleheader Win

North Central’s Whitley Richman makes her way past two Park University defenders during Wednesday night’s contest at the Ketcham Community Center. Richman finished with 16 points and was one of four Lady Pirates in double figures as NCMC took an 89-55 win at home.

The North Central Missouri College basketball teams provided fans with lots of excitement on Wednesday night while coming away with a pair of wins on their home floor at the Ketcham Community Center.
The Lady Pirates had four players in double figures and finished the night with an 89-55 win over the Park University JV. The men, meanwhile, got a balanced scoring attack with three players in double figures and taking an 88-61 decision over the Missouri Valley College JV.
Lady Pirates
It was all NCMC from the get-go on Wednesday night as the Lady Pirates took control and rolled out to a 22-15 advantage in the first quarter. The Lady Pirates continued their domination in the second period, taking a 43-29 lead into intermission. With the starters getting a rest during much of the second half, NCMC kept Park at bay while outscoring their opponents 46-26 to finish the night with a 34-point victory.
Local players dominated the NCMC scoring barrage, led by Gilman City’s Hailey Burrows, who had the hot hand for the Lady Pirates and scored 17 points, thanks to five three-pointers on the night. Trenton’s Whitley Richman put in 16 points while King City’s Kendey Eaton put up 15 points. NCMC also got 10 points St. Joseph product Maddison Brook finished thenight with 10 points.
The win evened the Lady Pirate record to 2-2. NCMC will be at home on Friday night, hosting the Central Methodist University JV in a 6 o’clock contest at the KCC.
Pirates
The NCMC men put their quickness on display on Wednesday night, outpacing their Missouri Valley counterparts on the floor and connecting on several dunks.At the break, the Pirates found themselves up by a 45-28 score.
Jalen Grant finished the night with 28 points to pace the Pirates. Ryan Ward scored 12 while Jordan Reece added 10 points. NCMC is now 2-1 on the season.
“Overall I was very pleased with our teams effort and execution,” Coach Jeremy Esry said. “We made it a priority this week in practice to focus on rebounding and boxing out and I believe that it carried over to our game. We still have some things to shore up consistency wise and if we can get that figured out we could be a pretty competitive team come January and February.”
Next up on the schedule is a 4 p.m. game against Highland Community College on Friday at Kansas City, Kansas, Community College. The Pirates will then play KCKCC on Saturday at 6 p.m.
