Additional testing confirms that water at Trenton schools and daycare centers is below the Environmental Protection Agency’s action level for lead in drinking water of 15 parts per billion.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources returned Trenton Municipal Utilities’ water test results from local schools and public facilities including, S.M. Rissler Elementary, Trenton Middle School, Trenton High School, the Green Hills Women’s Shelter and all registered daycare operations in Trenton.
TMU conducted these tests, which are beyond the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ requirements, to verify that select public facilities do not have lead levels beyond the action level. These locations were chosen because they serve young children and pregnant women, who are at the greatest risk from lead in water.
“Given the importance of these locations and the populations they serve, we felt it was important to conduct additional testing,” City Administrator and TMU Director Ron Urton said. “We are pleased to report that none of the additional facilities tested have returned results beyond the action level.”
All tested locations have been notified of the test results. TMU continues to work with the DNR to address lead levels in the water, identify potentially impacted areas and is committed to communicating any updates regarding water quality with the public.
The city of Trenton has also established a water quality hotline, 660-359-4310, for the public to use if they have any questions or concerns regarding this issue.
