Trenton Falls In District Semis

Oct 19, 2017 | Sports & Recreation, Volleyball

The Trenton High School volleyball team saw its record-setting season come to a close in the Class 2, District 15 semifinals on Wednesday as the host school – Higginsville – ended the Bulldogs’ season with a 25-20, 25-11 victory.
Trenton’s close loss in the opening game appeared to have an ill effect on the Bulldogs in the second set as Higginsville closed out the match with a relatively easy 25-11 victory in game two.
Individual statistics were unavailable as of press time.
Despite the loss, Trenton’s season was an impressive one for the program. The final record of 12-16-1 represented a school record for wins with 12. It was also the first time in the 23-year history of the program that the Bulldogs reached double-digit victories.
Trenton’s semifinal appearance at districts was just the fourth in school history and this year marked the first time Trenton has advanced to the district semifinals in back-to-back seasons.
Higginsville would fall in the district championship to Lexington, which defeated the Huskers 26-24, 25-17 to earn the Minutewomen’s first district championship in volleyball since 1996. Lexington will face another Missouri River Valley-East Conference opponent in sectionals when they face Holden in St. Joseph on Saturday at LeBlond High School. The sectional match is scheduled for a noon start.
