University of Missouri Extension will be holding informational meetings next month for elected officials and members of public boards regarding the state’s open meetings law.
The meetings will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9 and Thursday, Nov. 16. Locally the event will be held in Room 208 of Geyer Hall on the North Central Missouri College campus. Sessions are also planned at Unionville, Brookfield, Edina, Kahoka and Palmyra.
Participants at the six classroom locations will be linked together via Skype to encourage peers to share their experiences during question and answer periods. Community Development Specialist Tracy Marlo Daugherty said that in addition to an overview of board basics, extension will set up attendees with resource materials and connections throughout the state for ongoing support. The two-night course covers bid procedures, the Fair Labor Standards Act, closed sessions, parliamentary procedure, personnel policies, media relations and other basics for boards accepting taxpayer funds.
Public boards include ambulance districts, fair boards, fire protection districts, health departments, public water supply districts, soil and water conservation districts, hospitals, library boards, townships, city councils and county commissions.
A $55 registration fee includes both evening sessions, refreshments, and materials. Persons are asked to register by Nov. 6 for any of the six locations by contacting the University of Missouri Extension office in Putnam County at 660-947-2705 or by e-mail at [email protected]
